Tejari is the Middle East’s leading B2B e-marketplace, with 5,000 members including
the region’s largest government ministries. Set up at the end of 2000, Tejari offers
an electronic exchange for a wide range of industries. Despite increased usage of
Tejari.com, few of its members went as far as linking their financial systems with
it to process transactions electronically. Many were simply using the site for information
and completed their transactions offline.
Tejari decided to create a more flexible and user-friendly portal that would integrate
seamlessly with its back-end systems, accommodate future services, and dramatically
improve its members’ experience with the site.
It also needed to be scalable enough to deal with the rapid growth in usage as it
continues to expand across the Middle East region, with the ultimate goal of having
a local portal operating in each country. In February 2003, Tejari issued a request
for procurement to build the new portal. It received proposals from 25 suppliers,
including solutions based on IBM and Oracle technologies. After a three-month evaluation,
Tejari chose Link Development and Microsoft to revamp the portal.
Link Development, a gold-certified Microsoft partner for e-commerce, worked on creating
a dynamic portal that linked seamlessly with Tejari’s existing back-end operations
using the Microsoft .NET Framework, an integral component of Microsoft Windows®
operating system that provides a programming model and run time for Web services,
Web applications, and smart client applications.
'In addition, Tejari has selected the Microsoft platform for this web services initiative
to demonstrate the openness and interoperability of our technology platform, an
effort that also delivers greater peace-of-mind to Tejari's trading community.
We selected Link Development to build the portal on the Microsoft technology due
to their proven expertise in delivering innovative and secure end-to-end solutions,'
added Sheikha Al-Qasimi, the ex- CEO of Tejari. Tejari selected Link Development
to develop, host, support and maintain its portal as well as develop its security
architecture.
Link Development has reaped the fruits of its success by grabbing another worldwide
award from Microsoft. Link Development was awarded the Worldwide Award for Customer
Experience of the Year 2004 during Velocity, the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference
that was held in Toronto, Canada from 10-13 July, 2004.
The award was for the world class quality work done with Tejari, the Middle East
leading Business-to-Business (B2B) Marketplace that allows companies to buy and
sell goods and services online. Also during Gitex 2004, Link Development was awarded
by Tejari as Technology Partner of the Year 2004.
